Don’t Shoot the Second Arrow

I don’t know where this metaphor came from; it is supposedly from Native American lore, but it could just as easily have come from any civilization that had bows and arrows as its main weapon. Even Shakespeare referred to the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.”

The short version: life will shoot many arrows at you. But if your reaction shoots another arrow at yourself or others, it will hurt far worse…
